Privacy notice
In short
We use what you tell the app only to run your conversations and to make the app work. We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising. We do not keep recordings of your voice. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
1. Who we are
Aphasia.ai is run by Aphonos Inc., 30 N Gould St, Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801, United States. Write to us at ingo.bothe@aphonos.ai. A person reads every message.
Aphasia.ai is software for conversation practice. It is not a medical device and it does not replace a speech-language pathologist. It is for adults (18 and over). It is not for emergencies.
2. What we collect
- Your email address, to sign you in and to write to you.
- What you tell us when you set up: your name, your work, your interests, your family, how talking is for you right now, and if a family member helps, their name.
- Your conversations: the text of what you say and what the app says, with timing information such as pauses, and short summaries of each session.
- How the app is working: numbers such as how long a reply took or how often the microphone lost its connection. These never contain your words.
Some of this is health information, for example how your speech is affected after a stroke. Under some state laws, such as Washington's My Health My Data Act, it counts as consumer health data. We collect it only with your consent, and only to run the app for you.
3. Your voice
When the microphone is on, your voice is sent live to our speech recognition provider, which turns it into text. We keep the text, not the sound. We do not store recordings of your voice.
4. How we use it
- To hold the conversation: the app uses your profile and what you just said to write its reply.
- To remember earlier sessions, so the next conversation can pick up where you left off.
- To write the summary that you, and a family member you invite, can read.
- To find and fix problems with the app.
We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it to make decisions about you such as insurance or credit.
Research is your choice. At the end of setup we ask whether we may use your sessions, without your name, to improve the app and support research. It is off unless you turn it on, and you can change it any time in the app.
5. Who helps us run the app
These companies process your information for us, only to provide their service, under contract:
- Supabase: stores your account and sessions, in the United States.
- Vercel: runs the app and this website.
- AssemblyAI: turns your speech into text.
- Anthropic: its AI model (Claude) writes the app's replies and session summaries. Under Anthropic's terms for business customers, what we send is not used to train its models.
- Cartesia: reads the app's replies out loud. It receives the text the app is about to say, never a recording of your voice.
- Resend: sends your sign-in codes.
- Sentry: tells us when the app breaks. We remove your words, email and address before anything is sent.
- Formspree: receives the sign-up form on this website.
If Cartesia is not available for a moment, the app uses the voice built into your own phone, tablet or computer instead.
We share information with authorities only if the law requires it.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account and sessions until you delete them. When you delete your account, we remove your profile, sessions and summaries. Website sign-ups are deleted once we no longer need them, and at the latest after 24 months.
7. Your choices and rights
- See or get a copy of what we hold about you: write to us.
- Delete everything: in the app, open your profile and choose "Delete everything", or write to us.
- Withdraw your consent at any time: delete your account, or write to us. Research sharing can be switched off in the app.
- Correct your profile in the app at any time.
We answer within 30 days. If we say no to a request, we tell you why, and you may ask us to look at it again. Residents of some states, including Washington, may also complain to their state Attorney General.
8. Keeping it safe
Information is encrypted on the way to us and stored with access limited to the people who run the app. If your information is ever exposed, we will tell you as the law requires.
9. Cookies on this website
This website sets no cookies and uses no tracking or advertising tools. If you change the text size, your browser remembers that on your device only.
10. Changes
If we change how we use your information, we update this page and, for important changes, ask for your consent again.
